Top selling cash drawers like the series 4000 come in many configurations to accommodate different business settings, and when connected to a receipt printer with a programmable interface, require a specific interface cable that matches that printer. For the series 4000, all the sizes from 16X16 through 20X21 use the same tills. The difference in size only affects the case and the bigger sizes allow more shelf space for items like customer (pole) displays, and for managing cables. A cash drawer mounted under a counter doesn't need to be bigger than 16X16. In terms of interface cables, there are several considerations to be made before purchasing. A serial connection will allow your cash drawer to operate directly from the POS system it is attached to. Some POS software will only allow for serial connections of cash drawers. The Multipro interface allows a connection from the drawer to the back of the receipt printer (assuming your receipt printer has this connection jack). The connection to the printer will vary by printer and will be dependent on whether the printer interface is 12V or 24V. Again, it is important to make sure that your POS software also supports these printer commands before choosing this option. When available, this is your best option, as it is the least expensive, reserves your serial port for other POS devices, and also coordinates the operation of your drawer with the printing of receipts. Only the most common configurations are displayed on the products page. From our experience, most vendors choose stainless steel fronts with media slots in the larger 18X16 or 18X21 size drawers. The most popular interface is the Multipro 12V or 24V interface that connects directly to your POS printer. A dedicated serial interace option or USB serial emulator option, that connects directly to your POS system is also offered. The serial and USB interface option comes with the the cable, but the Multipro interface cable must be purchased separately.
